Approval period of Loyalty Points on the Make a Purchase Activity

Introduction

The approval period for loyalty points allows you to delay point issuance after a purchase, ensuring that orders are completed and not returned or cancelled before rewards are granted. By setting an approval period on the Make a Purchase activity, you can better manage refunds, reduce misuse of points, and maintain accurate loyalty balances. This article explains how the approval period works and how to configure it for loyalty points earned from purchases.

To set up an approval period of Loyalty Points on the Make a Purchase Activity, follow these steps:



Step 2: Now, click on the Make a Purchase tab.

Make sure that the Make a Purchase button is enabled



Step 3: You can configure the points earned for every $1 spent by the customer. Additionally, you can include the campaign name, description, store link, and the text that will be displayed when the customer makes a purchase.



Step 4: Add the approval period in days. This is also the place where you can choose to exclude shipping costs or sale-based products from point allocation. You can also revert the points on order cancellation. Click save/update when done.


Idea

Note:

1.) Revert point on order cancellation will only work if you have marked as Refunded/Partially refunded the payment

2.) If you enable Exclude sales product, the points will not be assigned to the customer on the Sales order, or the 0 points will be assigned to the customer.




Important Notes

  1. Loyalty points are credited only after the approval period ends, provided the order is not cancelled or refunded.
  2. The approval period applies only to the Make a Purchase earning activity.
  3. If an order is cancelled or refunded during the approval period, points will not be awarded.
  4. Reverting points on order cancellation will work only if the payment is marked as Refunded or Partially Refunded in Shopify.
  5. Changes made to the approval period affect future orders only and do not impact points already awarded.
  6. The approval period is counted in days, starting from the date the order meets the selected status (Paid or Fulfilled).
