Filter customers based on their email subscription status (Subscribed/Unsubscribed)

Introduction

Filtering customers by their email subscription status helps you target the right audience and maintain compliance with email marketing best practices. By segmenting customers as subscribed or unsubscribed, you can ensure that marketing emails are sent only to users who have opted in, while excluding those who have opted out. This improves deliverability, reduces spam complaints, and keeps your communication relevant and permission-based.



There are 3 ways to filter customers based on email marketing subscriptions:


1.) Shopify subscribe/unsubscribe status

2.) AiTrillion subscribe/unsubscribe status

3.) Send an email to accept marketing


1.) Shopify subscribe/unsubscribe status





Step 2:
Click on the Create segment button >> Add Filter>> search for Accept Marketing, and select it.




Step 3:
Click on is available to check if the email subscription is available on Shopify or is not available if the email subscription is available on Shopifyand click on Apply filter




 Now, you will get the list of customers who are marked as Subscribed/Unsubscribed in Shopify




2.) AiTrillion subscribe/unsubscribe status



Step 2:
Click on Create segment button >> Add filter >> search for Marketing email subscription




Step 3:
Click on Subscribe to check if the email marketing subscription is subscribed, or Unsubscribe to check if the email marketing subscription is unsubscribed, and click on Apply filter




Now, you will get the list of customers who are marked as Subscribed/Unsubscribed in AiTrillion




Sync the AiTrillion email marketing unsubscribe consent in the Shopify stores:

Sometimes customers unsubscribe from email marketing through AiTrillion, but the update doesn’t sync with your Shopify store. To resolve this, you can sync the email marketing consent from AiTrillion to Shopify.



Step 2: Enable the settingsSync AiTrillion email marketing unsubscribed consent for customers in the Shopify store.



Now, AiTrillion’s email marketing unsubscribe consent will be automatically synced with your Shopify store.

Send emails only to customers who have given consent for email marketing

Here are the steps to enable the setting to send emails only to customers who have given consent for email marketing:


Step 2: Enable the Send email to accept marketing



Now, emails will be sent only to customers who have given consent for email marketing.


Important notes:

  1. Always ensure that customers marked as Unsubscribed are excluded from all marketing email campaigns to stay compliant with email regulations.
  2. Subscription status may differ between Shopify and AiTrillion if syncing is not enabled or has not completed.
  3. It is recommended to sync AiTrillion email marketing consent with Shopify to keep subscription data consistent across platforms.
  4.  Use the correct filter (Shopify or AiTrillion subscription status) based on where the consent was captured.
  5. Customers who are unsubscribed from the email campaign can still receive transactional emails, but not promotional or marketing emails.
  6. Customers who unsubscribe from workflows can still receive campaign emails, and customers who unsubscribe from campaigns can still receive workflow emails. To stop receiving all emails, they must unsubscribe from both campaigns and workflows.
  7. Regularly review and clean your customer lists to maintain good deliverability and sender reputation.
