Create A Workflow Automation Manually

Introduction

Creating a workflow automation manually allows you to design fully customized customer journeys based on your specific business needs. Instead of relying on pre-built templates, you can define your own triggers, conditions, and actions to control how and when your communications are sent.

In this article, you’ll learn how to create a workflow from scratch, giving you complete flexibility to automate processes, engage customers at the right moments, and optimize your marketing strategy.

Here are the steps to create a workflow manually:

NotesNote: Before proceeding, it is recommended that you create a customized message to use in the workflow. This can be a custom email, web push, SMS, WhatsApp, or all the messages.

Step 2: Choose a Trigger, Filters, and an action. You can add some delay points too. For more info on triggers, delays, and actions, click here.

Step 3: Drag and drop a trigger to the Workflow editor. Then click on the trigger to select its options.

Step 4: Drag and drop any delays or actions of your choice and click on them to choose their options. An example is shown below in which Send Email from Actions is added and connected with a trigger block.

Step 5: Here are the options below that need to be done.

  1. Enable throttling options. To learn how to enable the throttling option, click here.
  2. Give your workflow a name
  3. Save your flow.
  4. Turn it on!

Now, the custom workflow will be automatically triggered for customers once they enter the workflow.

Important Notes

  • It is recommended to create your message templates (Email, SMS, WhatsApp, or Web Push) before building the workflow.
  • Use filters to target the right audience and avoid sending irrelevant messages.
  • Ensure all nodes (trigger, filters, and actions) are properly connected in the workflow editor.
  • Add delays where necessary to control the timing between actions.
  • Configure contact throttling to manage how often a customer can enter the workflow.
  • Double-check all action settings (email, SMS, WhatsApp, etc.) before activating the workflow.
  • Test the workflow to ensure it runs as expected and all communications are delivered correctly.
  • Provide a clear and relevant name for the workflow for easy identification and management.
  • Make sure to save and turn on the workflow; otherwise, it will not be triggered.
