Here are the steps to add a tag to the customer for newsletter signup:
Step 1: Go to Smart popup >> Create new >> Newsletter popup

Step 2: Click on Edit button
Step 3: Add the tag on Customer. For example I have added the tag Newsletter
Note📝: If you want customers to Subscribe for email marketing and SMS marketing, you need to enable the button of following
1.) Subscribe for email marketing in store
2.) Subscribe for sms marketing in store
