Steps to Collect Customer Consent from the Shopify Checkout Widget

2. If customers mark SMS as subscribed, WhatsApp will be automatically marked as subscribed.

Step 1: Go to Shopify admin >> click on the Settings tab.



Step 2: Click on the Checkout tab >> scroll down to the Marketing options and enable the SMS button.



Step 3: Click on the Save button.



Once the customer enables the “Text me with news and offers” option and enters their phone number, the consent for SMS and WhatsApp will be marked as subscribed.




Important Notes:

  1. Ensure that SMS marketing is enabled in Shopify Checkout settings; otherwise, the “Text me with news and offers” option will not appear on the checkout page.

  2. Customers must enter their phone number and enable the SMS consent option to subscribe to SMS and WhatsApp communications.

  3. If a customer subscribes to SMS marketing, their WhatsApp consent will automatically be marked as subscribed.

  4. If the SMS option is disabled in Shopify, customers will not be able to provide consent for SMS or WhatsApp through the checkout page.
