Disable point earning if a discount is already applied

Disable point earning if a discount is already applied

Introduction

In some cases, you may want to avoid rewarding loyalty points on already discounted orders to protect margins and maintain a fair rewards structure. This article explains how to disable point earning when a discount is already applied to an order, ensuring that customers earn points only on full-priced purchases.

Here are the steps to prevent point earning when a discount is already applied:

Step 1: Go to Loyalty rewards >> Set up program >> Earn points

Step 2: Click on Make a purchase activity,  and you will get an option to prevent point earning when a discount is applied. Choose how discounts affect point earning:
  1. None → Points are always given, even if a discount is applied.
  2. Exclude loyalty points for discounted orders → If the order has any discount, the customer won’t earn points.
  3. Exclude loyalty points for discounted products → If specific discounted products are in the cart, no points are awarded for those products.

Info
Note:
1.) If “Exclude loyalty points for discounted products” is enabled, customers will not earn any points when an order-level discount is applied.
2.) If “Exclude loyalty points for discounted products” is enabled, the customers will not earn any points on gift code discounts.

Now, the customers will not earn points either on loyalty points for discount orders or on discount products and gift card payments.

Important Notes

  1. Order-level discounts will also prevent point earning when the discounted products exclusion is enabled.
  2. These settings apply only to the Make a purchase earning activity.
  3. Any changes made will affect future orders only and will not impact points already awarded.
