Add Custom tag to customer or order using Workflow

Add a custom tag to customer or order using Workflow

Introduction

Adding a custom tag to a customer or order using workflows allows you to organize and manage your data more effectively. By automatically tagging customers or orders based on specific actions, conditions, or behaviors, you can streamline segmentation, improve targeting, and enhance your overall marketing strategy.

In this article, you’ll learn how to automatically add custom tags through workflows, helping you categorize customers and orders efficiently while enabling more personalized and data-driven campaigns.

Here are the steps to add a custom tag to your customer using workflow automation:

Step 2: Drag and drop the trigger as per your needs. Example: I am using the Contact is added trigger.

Step 3: Use the filter as per your need, drag and drop the tag action, and connect the node. There are two types of action, which are:

  1. Update tags (Customers): This action will add or remove the tag of the customer.
  2. Update tags (Order): This action will add or remove the tag of the order.
Example: I am using the Update tags (Order) action.

Step 4: Click on the Update tag action, which has been added to the workflow editor, and you will get the following settings:

  1. Action: There are 2 options available, which are: Add tags -- To add the tag, or Remove tag -- to remove the tag.
  2. Tags: Enter the tag that you would like to be added and click on Add.
Once you add the action and tag, click on Done.

Step 5: Give a name to the workflow, set up the throttling option, and mark the workflow as active.

Now, the tag will be added to the customer or order whenever customers enter the segment.

Important Notes

  • Choose the correct trigger to ensure tags are applied at the right stage (e.g., contact added, order placed).
  • Use filters to target the right customers or orders and avoid applying tags unnecessarily.
  • Understand the difference between Update tags (Customers) and Update tags (Orders) before selecting the action.
  • Ensure the tag name is accurate and consistent to maintain proper organization and segmentation.
  • You can choose to either add or remove tags, depending on your workflow requirement.
  • Double-check that the Update tag action is properly connected in the workflow editor.
  • Configure contact throttling to control how often the workflow is triggered for the same customer.
  • Make sure to save and activate the workflow; otherwise, the tagging action will not be executed.
  • Tags added through workflows can be used later for segmentation, targeting, and reporting.
