Free Membership Auto-Assignment

Introduction

With Free Membership Auto-Assignment, every new customer automatically becomes a member of your free plan the moment they sign up — no manual work and no missed customers. New signups receive membership benefits immediately, and when a customer upgrades to a paid plan, the free membership is cancelled automatically.

Enable Free Membership Auto-Assignment

Step 1: Go to [Membership V2 >> Membership plans] and locate your Free plan in the Active plans list.

Step 2: Click Edit on the free plan to open the plan editor.

Step 3: Enable “Automatically assign this plan to new customers on signup.” New customers created in your store will be enrolled in this plan and receive its benefits automatically.

Step 4: Optionally, enable “Automatically cancel this membership when the customer buys a paid membership” so that when an auto-assigned member purchases any other paid membership, their free membership is cancelled automatically.

Step 5: Click Update to save. From now on, all new customers are automatically assigned to this plan at signup.

📝 Note: Only one plan can be set to auto-assign at a time.

💡 Idea: Start customers on a free plan to build engagement from day one, then encourage them to upgrade to a paid tier with member-only offers.
