Difference Between Auto Renewal Mode and Manual Renewal Mode in Membership

Introduction

AiTrillion’s Membership V2 module offers two types of renewal modes: Auto Renewal and Manual Renewal. These modes determine how a customer’s membership is renewed after the subscription period ends. Choosing the right mode depends on your your business preferences.

1. Auto Renewal Mode

Description:
Auto Renewal Mode automatically renew memberships at the end of each billing cycle without requiring manual intervention from the customer.

Best For:
Stores that have supported payment gateway requirements.

Key Features:

  • Automatically charges customers at the end of each billing period.

  • Seamless renewal process improves customer retention.

  • Reduces administrative effort and missed renewals.

Use Case Example:
A store using Shopify Payments or other supported payment gateways wants to offer monthly premium access that renews without customer action.

2. Manual Renewal Mode

Description:
Manual Renewal Mode requires the customer to manually renew their membership at the end of each billing period.

Best For:
Stores in regions where supported payment gateways are not supported (e.g., India), or businesses that prefer customer-initiated renewals.

Key Features:

  • Customers receive a reminder to renew their membership.

  • Store owners have more control over when and how renewals happen.

Use Case Example:
An Indian store that uses a third-party payment provider and wants customers to manually confirm and renew their plans.
