Getting answers out of your store data usually means opening the right report, applying the right filter, and reading the numbers yourself. The MCP Connection removes that step. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants connect directly to a business tool and read its data. By linking AiTrillion to Claude or ChatGPT through MCP, you can simply ask questions in plain English — “Explain my loyalty program” or “What’s my overall average product rating?” — and the assistant will pull the answer from your own store.

The connection is read-only. The assistant can view your reports, but it can never create, edit or delete anything in your AiTrillion account. Setting it up takes two parts: first you generate an API key inside AiTrillion, then you add AiTrillion as a connector inside your assistant. In this article, you’ll learn how to do both — for Claude and for ChatGPT — and how to ask your first question.

Here are the steps to create the key your assistant will use:

Step 1: Open your browser and go to AiTrillion Login | Sign In to Your Account. Enter the email address and password of your AiTrillion account and click Sign in. Once you sign in, you land on the AiTrillion dashboard.

Step 2: Click your profile in the top-right corner of the dashboard. A panel opens on the right. Scroll to the DEVELOPER TOOLS section and click API access.

Step 3: The API access page opens. It has two kinds of keys — a Front store API key and a Server side REST API key. The MCP Connection uses the Server side REST API key. Scroll to that section and click the + Create API Key button on the right.

Step 4: The key is generated instantly and a confirmation message — API Key has been generated successfully — appears at the top of the screen. The new key is added to the table below, with its Status toggle already switched on. The key itself is masked by default; click the eye icon next to it to reveal the full value, then copy it. The key begins with pk_.

Note: You can add up to 5 server-side REST API keys. Give each one a clear name (click the pencil icon next to the key name) so you can tell them apart later — for example, Claude MCP or ChatGPT MCP. Treat this key like a password and don’t share it publicly.

Step 5: Now open the MCP Connection page by going to AiTrillion | AiTrillion in your browser. The Connector URL is shown at the top of the page — https://mcp.aitrillion.com. Click Copy URL to copy it. This is the address you will paste into your assistant.

Step 14: Type your question into the message box in plain English and press Enter (or click the send arrow). You don’t need to name a report, pick a date range, or use any special syntax — just ask the way you would ask a colleague. The assistant works out which AiTrillion tool to call, reads the report, and answers using your real store data.

The MCP Connection is built so that linking an AI assistant to your store never puts your data at risk:

Read-only. The connector can view your reports but can never create, edit or delete anything in your AiTrillion account.
Private and in your control. Your key is used only to read your own store’s data. You can disconnect the connector at any time from within Claude or ChatGPT, or switch the key off on the API access page to cut off access instantly.
