Allow your customers to opt out of a certain type of marketing list

Introduction:

Allowing customers to opt out of a specific type of marketing list gives them more control over the communications they receive while helping you stay compliant with email regulations. With this feature, customers can unsubscribe from certain categories of emails—such as promotions or newsletters—without opting out of all marketing messages. This helps improve customer experience, maintain trust, and ensure your emails remain relevant to each subscriber.

NotesNote: The customer must be added to a list before configuring the opt-out for the marketing list.


Here are the steps to allow customers to opt out of a certain type of marketing list:

Step 2: While creating your email message template using AiTrillion design editor (Learn more about it here), choose the opt-out list block.



Step 3: You can configure the block in its settings, creating a button for a customer to opt out of that list.


NotesNote: You need to add the following details from - {%optout_link,'LIST_ID','REDIRECT_LINK'%}

1.) LIST_ID - To add List ID, go to Customers >> List you will get ListID







 

2.) REDIRECT_LINK -  To add the redirect link, create a page and add a page link to Link URL




Now, all the added details will look like - {%optout_link,'1234','=https://url.myshopify.com/pages/feedback-form'%}



Step 3: Design the button according to your needs, remember to click on Save & exit button when done!

Now, if the customer clicks on the button, they will be opted out from the list associated with the given ID.


Important Notes:

  • Customers must be added to a list first before they can opt out of that specific marketing list.

  • The opt-out option works only for the list associated with the List ID used in the opt-out link.

  • Make sure to use the correct LIST_ID while configuring the opt-out block to avoid unsubscribing customers from the wrong list.

  • The REDIRECT_LINK is mandatory and should point to a valid page (for example, a confirmation or feedback page).

  • Once a customer clicks the opt-out button, they will be removed only from the selected list, not from all marketing communications.

  • This feature allows partial unsubscribe, helping you retain customers on other relevant lists.

  • Always save and exit the template after configuring the opt-out block to ensure changes are applied.

  • Opt-out actions apply in real time when the customer clicks the button.

  • It is recommended to test the opt-out button using a test customer before sending the email to live users.
