Enable manual membership to the front store for custom payment gateway

Introduction

Enabling manual membership on the storefront for a custom payment gateway allows customers to access membership benefits even when payments are processed outside the standard Shopify checkout flow. This setup is useful for stores using custom payment methods, offline payments, third-party gateways, or manual approval processes for memberships.

By enabling manual membership access on the front store, you can provide a seamless membership experience to customers while maintaining flexibility in how membership payments are managed. Here are the steps to enable manual membership to the front store:

Step 1: Go to Membership V2 >> Membership plans






Step 2: Click on Create new plan or click on the Edit button.




Step 3: Now, there are two options: select the Manual renewal mode and fill in all the required details. To learn more, click here

Note:

1.) Manual renewal mode is best suited for stores where Shopify payment doesn't support.

2.) The customers need to manually purchase the membership at the end of the current period or after it expires.



Step 4: Click on Save plan.





Important Notes

  • Manual renewal mode is recommended for stores using custom payment gateways or payment methods not supported by Shopify subscriptions.
  • Customers will need to manually renew or repurchase the membership after the current membership period expires.
  • Ensure that the membership plan is properly configured before enabling manual membership on the storefront.
  • You can either create a new membership plan or edit an existing membership plan to enable manual renewal mode.
  • Select the Manual renewal mode option while creating or editing the membership plan.
  • In manual renewal mode, memberships will not renew automatically after expiration.
  • Customers may lose access to membership benefits once the membership expires unless they renew it manually.
  • Make sure the membership product is correctly linked to the membership plan.
  • Configure the membership renewal cycle and duration carefully based on your business requirements.
  • It is recommended to clearly inform customers about the manual renewal process to avoid confusion.
  • After updating the settings, click the Save button to apply the changes.
  • Changes may take a few moments to reflect on the storefront after saving the membership configuration.
